Helping Jonathan Shipp and thousands of others who benefit from the work of our designated charities...

The Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon is committed to our community, and a portion of the net proceeds from our event will benefit local charities.  In three years the marathon has raised over $250,000 for local charities and non-profits

We encourage our runners, walkers and volunteers to make your marathon or half-marathon experience more meaningful by raising funds for one or both of these terrific organizations.

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
Founded in 1949, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Since its inception, the Society has invested over $358 million in research - including supporting two researchers at Kansas City's Stowers Institute for Medical Research. The local Mid-America Chapter, which serves the greater Kansas City area and western Missouri, provides numerous programs and services free of charge to patients, family members, and health care professionals. These programs include patient financial aid, education programs, family support groups, a grassroots advocacy network, and more. If you or a loved one is currently battling a blood cancer, please contact the Mid-America Chapter at (913) 262-1515 or (800) 256-1075 for information and support.

Kansas City Rotary Youth Camp

We change the lives of kids. A campfire with s'mores is a fond childhood memory. For children with disabilities, finding a suitable camping program can be challenging. The Kansas City, Missouri Downtown Rotary Club 13 has provided a quality camping experience for these children since 1925. This program is available only to groups in the Greater Kansas City area who provide services to children suffering from emotional, physical, or mental disabilities. The Rotary Youth Camp consists of 26 acres located 4 miles east of Unity Village on Colbern Road. Every year 1,200 summer resident campers, representing 10 organizations, will use our camp free of any expense to them or their group, including housing, meals, cooks and camp staff. Our campers usually cannot afford to go camping and most often their disabilities are so severe that no other camp in this region can accommodate them. The Rotary Youth Camp is designed for these children including a large swimming pool with a wheel chair ramp and paved nature trails. Camp is a memorable experience for any child, and for our campers, it is often life-changing. Club 13 is now asking the community to help us keep this enriching opportunity available to the appreciative children with disabilities from our area.
